In a bid to enhance operational efficiency and improve service delivery, we recently completed a two-day benchmarking visit to Nairobi City Water and Sanitation Company (NCWSC). The visit provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, with a particular focus on best practices in water and sanitation management.
The benchmarking exercise, led by our Board Chairperson, brought together board members, senior management, and staff representatives, alongside Hon. Fredrick Kinyua, the CECM for Water, Irrigation, Environment, and Climate Change, and Company Secretary Richard Gikuhi. This diverse delegation engaged in extensive discussions covering key topics critical to improving water service delivery.
The areas of focus included service level water management, infrastructure development, funding and resource mobilization, technology adaptation, and strengthening county government relationships. These discussions provided a comprehensive understanding of how these areas contribute to operational efficiency, with the goal of boosting service provision for customers.
As part of the exercise, the delegation toured several significant facilities operated by Nairobi Water, gaining first-hand insights into the company’s infrastructure and operations. These included the ICT Center at the Nairobi Water Head Office, Ndakaini Dam, Githika River Outfall, Irati Intake, Maragua Intake, and the Northern Collector Tunnel. The tours were instrumental in highlighting the role of cutting-edge technology and infrastructure in ensuring reliable water supply and efficient sanitation services.
We also extended our gratitude to Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company for their warm reception and the in-depth discussions that took place. Special thanks were offered to the Nairobi Water leadership, including the Board Chairperson, the Acting Managing Director, and their management team, for their hospitality and commitment to fostering collaboration in the water sector.
This benchmarking initiative is a step towards our ongoing commitment to adopting innovative solutions and strengthening partnerships that promote sustainable water and sanitation services. It is also aligned with our vision to improve operational standards and meet the growing demands for efficient and reliable water services in Nyeri County.
As both companies continue to work together, this exchange marks an important milestone in the effort to modernize Kenya’s water sector and ensure that communities across the country have access to clean, safe, and reliable water.
